Deck Season is Lurking

Deck and Fence Stain for Central Texas

High-Performing Plant-Based Stain Safe for People and Planet

With the mild Texas winter we had this past year seemingly in the rearview, it's time to gear up for our brief enjoyable outdoor-living season. With moderate temperatures between 60- and 85-degrees that are not likely to last as long as we want, we've got a limited amount of time to be able to get some maintenance work done around the house and still have some time to enjoy the fruits of our labor.

The extreme Texas weather wreaks havoc on exterior wood surfaces, like decks, fences, and siding. These projects usually entail a significant investment of time and money - and we should protect them as well as possible. Protecting wood from the elements is neccessary to prevent degradation of these costly structures - and Sansin has a wood care solution for you. Many solvent-based wood stains and finishes tend to fade very quickly in the Texas sun and lose the strength needed to protect the wood in a short amount of time.

Sansin's exterior wood care products like SDF, DEC, and Classic are water-borne alkyd stains. Alkyds are basically plant-based resins (as opposed to petroleum-based ones)  that serve as the protecting force against the elements by penetrating into the wood and becoming part of it. Water is the vehicle that transports the alkyds deep into the wood (penetration is inhibited by extreme temperatures, which makes spring and fall the ideal times to apply stains). Although some UV inhibitors are contained in the stain, the pigmentation of the stain color provides the bulk of the Ultra-Violet Light protection, helping the wood to resist fading. However, no product can be applied once and not require maintenance to keep wood from graying in the Texas sun. The time it takes for wood to gray ultimately depends on the amount of UV exposure and how well a surface is protected. Sansin products have been tested compared to several other commonly-used, highly-toxic, solvent-based products in our region and have outperformed all of them. Maintenance coats for Sansin products can be expected every 3-6 years on vertical surfaces and 1-4 years on horizontal surfaces to maintain beauty and protection.
Despite lasting longer than most competive products, Sansin wood care products will not kill your grass and plants if they accidentally get sprayed - and are much safer for the humans that apply it and for the kids, pets, and and the people that will enjoy it after the job is done!
